Vessel by Fabio Vogel, Studio Tusch
At the beginning of February 2025, the Hessian State Prize for German Handicrafts was awarded for the 73rd time at the Ambiente 2025 International Fair in Frankfurt. Three craftspeople were honoured for their craftsmanship and artistic contributions and a promising young talent was also selected. The total prize fund was 13.000€.
As part of Ambiente 2025, an exhibition showcased the work of 25 nominees, selected from 186 submissions by a digital jury. The winners were selected from displayed works by the on-site jury.
Winners are:
1st Prize: Vessel by Fabio Vogel
Fabio won first place with his innovative glass objects from the 105 LTR FORMS collection, where he uses heat-resistant textile to shape the glass, creating delicate textures and a beautiful contrast between smooth and folded surfaces.
2nd Prize: Candlestick by Ludwig Menzel
Ludwig earned second place for his brass candlestick, featuring a surrealistic design that combines raw texture and three-dimensional form to create a visually striking, floating effect.
3rd Prize: Paper jewelry by Lydia Hirte
Lydia was awarded the third prize for her sculptural jewelry, crafted from flexible drawing paper that she transforms into stable, three-dimensional designs through a unique technique.
Emerging Talent Award: Brushes by Anna Wanitschke
Anna received the award for her sustainable brush set, designed with a porcelain body and detachable bristles, allowing for easy replacement and minimal waste, inspired by Japanese aesthetics.
The Hessian State Prize celebrates outstanding, self-initiated work based on original designs. It is one of the oldest state prizes in the country, highlighting the continued importance of traditional craftsmanship in contemporary design.
The prize is organised by German Crafts Association (BK), Messe Frankfurt & Ambiente.
