The European Commission has presented its plans for the next phase of the New European Bauhaus (NEB). Part of the European Affordable Housing Plan, this strategy moves the initiative from vision to implementation. The focus is now on scaling up actions to drive the clean transition and innovation across Europe. Key objectives include enhancing circularity in the built environment, empowering citizens and harnessing the power of education and culture.
Implications for the Crafts Sector
As a proud partner of the NEB, the European Crafts Alliance welcomes this ambitious new chapter. The strategy explicitly highlights the need to recover and foster traditional craftsmanship skills. This is vital for the valorisation of cultural heritage. We are particularly interested in the expansion of the NEB Academy. This infrastructure will support upskilling and reskilling, allowing craft professionals to apply traditional knowledge to modern sustainable building challenges. By prioritising bio-based materials and circularity, the NEB continues to place craft at the centre of the green transition.
