The Slovenian Craft Festival returns to Brdo pri Kranju on 7 June 2026. Organised by ECA member the Consortium of Craft Centres of Slovenia, this premier event offers a comprehensive overview of a vibrant culture of making. It is a celebration of both craft and connection.

Over 70 artisans will gather to present and sell their pieces. Many craftspeople will also offer live presentations of their skills. Watching the practical processes behind the work adds real depth to the experience.

A notable feature of the programme is Idrija lace. This traditional skill was recently officially notified for the new European Geographical Indication for craft and industrial products. Woven crafts also take centre stage. The festival showcases traditional straw weaving alongside hat making and items from the Pomelaj cooperative. Visitors can explore unique regional heritage through displays of toy making and the crafting of instruments. The event also features Prekmurje egg painting, stone carving, and woodturning.

From blacksmithing to the traditional preparation of Slovenian cake Prekmurska gibanica, the festival stands as a strong testament to this small country’s rich crafts disciplines.
