The international fine craft and creation biennial, Révélations, has announced that Gewächs VI by German Norwegian creator Daniela Bergschneider will serve as the signature piece for its 8th edition. The artwork will be unveiled exclusively at the event, which takes place from 19 to 23 May 2027 at the Grand Palais in Paris, France.
An Encounter of Two Materials
Gewächs VI was created especially for the biennial in Bergschneider’s workshop on a pier in Bergen. The organic sculpture is a hybrid artwork that blends textiles and ceramics. For the first time in the history of the biennial, the signature piece features a dialogue between two distinct materials.
The piece comprises hundreds of small, uniform porcelain elements. Each element is handmade and bears the fingerprints of the creator. These ceramics form an inner structure that is held together by hand dyed nylon fabric. The textile, which acts as a skin, incorporates a knot derived from the traditional Japanese Shibori technique. The final modular sculpture took three months of intensive work to complete. It was created through processes of draping and arrangement rather than following a predetermined form.
About the Creator
Born in Germany, Daniela Bergschneider lives and works in Bergen, Norway. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Art Academy in Bergen. Her artistic concept, which she terms “visual tactility”, aims to trigger a bodily response in the viewer through the combination of porcelain and nylon.
Her works are part of several prominent collections, including the National Museum in Oslo, the KODE Museum in Bergen, the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum, the Equinor Art Collection, and the Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal. In 2024, she received a 10 year Working Grant from the Arts Council in Norway and was awarded the Springbrettprisen in Bergen.
