Towards a European Strategy for Crafts

Symposium

The manifesto will be published for reading, sharing, and joining the action plan on 22 May at 12:00 CET. Watch this space!

In 2019, the Crafting Europe Manifesto was launched in Paris with a clear mission: to elevate the visibility of the European crafts sector and encourage policymakers to take meaningful action. The initial Manifesto provided a pivotal platform for European craft professionals to make their voices to be heard by the European Commission. Since then, the sector has made significant strides, but it has also faced unprecedented challenges.

As we navigate the complexities of the present day, it’s clear that the craft sector needs a unified and strategic approach to overcome these challenges. The time has come to update and reaffirm our vision for the future.

During the 7th edition of Révélations at the Grand Palais in Paris, we will unveil the refreshed Crafting Europe Manifesto. This updated document will chart the course for the European crafts sector, presenting a collective vision for its growth, sustainability, and the recognition of its cultural value across Europe and beyond.

Join key figures from across Europe, including policy makers and craft organisations professionals, as we discuss how the sector can thrive in the coming years and what role policy can play in supporting innovation and sustainability within the craft ecosystem.

Speakers include:

Stéphane Galerneau, Président of Ateliers d’Art de France

Rolf Hughes, Director of Education, EIT Culture & Creativity

Vasiliki Kassianidou, Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus

Claudia Martinez, Deputy Head of Unit in the Commission, DG GROW, in Unit C4 “Intangible Economy”

Cristina Mendes, President of the European Crafts Alliance

David Places, Board Member of the European Crafts Alliance

Laura Miguel Baumann, General Secretary of the European Crafts Alliance

Opening remarks will be made by Stéphane Galerneau, President of Ateliers d’Art de France, and the event will also include a video message from Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport.
