Deadline: 30 June 2026
The Centre for Folk Art Production (ÚĽUV) has opened the call for the 2026 edition of Rings in Water (Kruhy na vode). This international competition serves as a platform for dialogue between the past and the present; seeking works that reinterpret traditional craft values for the contemporary world.
The competition is open to designers, craftsmen, artists and students (university and secondary) from across the globe. Participants are invited to submit works of applied art or design that draw inspiration from folk culture; whether through specific patterns, production methods or the functional spirit of original artefacts.
Unlike many design competitions, Rings in Water does not accept visualisations or 3D renders; only physical prototypes and finished products are eligible. Works must be crafted primarily from traditional materials such as wood, metal, textile, glass, ceramics or horn.
The evaluation process takes place in two rounds, culminating in an exhibition of the selected works in Bratislava.
