The make-a-thek project, in which the European Craft Alliance is a partner, has officially launched its mobile makerspace tour. The initiative features a specially equipped tool bus named Matty, designed to bring hands on creativity directly to communities outside major urban centres.
Transforming Local Spaces
make-a-thek introduces the concept of easily replicable makerspaces directly into public libraries and community squares. The bus is equipped with tools, project kits, machines, and instructional guides. By hosting interactive events in collaboration with local partners, the tour showcases how everyday public spaces can function as active community hubs for making. It also encourages hands on experimentation and promotes the practical understanding of circularity in fashion and rural craft.
Tour Itinerary and Future Routes
The bus is currently undertaking its first European route, travelling from Berlin through small and medium sized towns across Germany, Czechia, and Poland until 13 June 2026. The itinerary includes stops in Werder, Bad Belzig, Görlitz, Teplice, Vrchlabí, Wrocław, Łódź, Poznań, and Spreewald.
Following this central European route, the Matty will proceed to the Baltic States for a tour in August. It will then continue to Northern Spain and Portugal in the autumn.
