Kilkenny, Ireland – World Craft City and Region: Kilkenny city looks back on 1500 years of heritage and was for a short period in the 17th century the capital of Ireland. Craft and craftsmanship are a vital part of that cultural history. Kilkenny had a wide variety of traditional craft skills on which to base its current contemporary craft economy which was also heavily influenced by the establishment of Kilkenny Design Workshops (KDW) in the early 1960s.
