The European Commission is taking a fresh look at the European Heritage Label (EHL). The aim is to strengthen its visibility and real-world impact, especially for sites and communities outside major urban centres. As part of this process, two opportunities are currently open.

Have your say on the future of the EHL

A public consultation is open, inviting feedback on how the European Heritage Label could be updated and improved. The focus is on making the scheme more inclusive, more accessible and more meaningful for local communities. If you work with heritage sites, networks or community-based projects, you are invited to contribute directly to how the Label evolves. Deadline for the feedback is 23 February 2026.

Call for Proposals: Support for the implementation of the European Heritage Label

At the same time, the Commission has opened a call for proposals to appoint Support for the implementation of the European Heritage Label for the period 2026 to 2029. The selected organisation or consortium will support and coordinate the network of more than 67 EHL sites across Europe. This includes capacity building, communication and visibility work, and managing financial support for local community projects through cascading grants. The goal is to strengthen the network, encourage cross-border collaboration and give EHL sites the tools they need to work more effectively together. The indicative budget is 3–4 million €; deadline for applications is 11 February 2026.
