As the new EU regulation on Geographical Indications (GIs) for craft and industrial products is set to take effect on in December 2025, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has launched a dedicated online portal to support stakeholders in navigating the upcoming changes.
It offers practical guidance on eligibility criteria, application procedures, and legal requirements under the new system. The portal also provides access to key tools, including GIview—the most comprehensive searchable database of protected GIs worldwide—and the soon-to-be-launched Union Register, where officially recognised names will be listed and made publicly accessible.
With clear explanations, regularly updated resources, and announcements of relevant events and webinars, the portal is designed to support a smooth transition to the new legislation.
