The European Crafts Alliance (ECA) Secretary General, Laura Miguel Baumann, was the guest on the Sello de Autor podcast, hosted by Adriana Campo of Labois.

The conversation focused on a central theme: how to shift the public and political perception of craft from a hobby to its reality as a €50 billion European industry.

During the discussion, Laura detailed the core work of the ECA, including:

  • The ECA’s Core Mission: Giving a unified voice to the ECA’s 39 member organisations, representing the €50bn sector as a “network of networks”.
  • The ECA Mission in Action: How the network’s strength is used to support and spotlight member-led initiatives (such as those by Crafts Council Nederland, Malta Crafts Foundation, and Uluv) and to partner in large-scale EU projects like make-a-thek, Reskilling Crafts, and Tracks4Crafts.
  • The Future of the Sector: Key policy topics, including the importance of Geographical Indications (GI), the potential impact of a European Year of Crafts, and the fact that 70% of artisans are already embracing digital tools.

The episode also served as the first public announcement of the ECA’s own upcoming podcast series. The full discussion is available to listen to (in Spanish) on all major podcast platforms.
