The Golden Thread: A Collective Tile Mural

workshop
6 April 2025, 11.00 GMT│ MACS, R. da Boavista 84, 4000-112 Porto

The Golden Thread: A Collective Tile Mural. This unique workshop, hosted at MACS and led by artist Eglė Norkutė, brings together traditional Portuguese azulejo painting with a playful surrealist approach. Participants each paint an individual tile, guided only by a subtle golden line that runs across all pieces—without seeing the full design. Inspired by the Exquisite Corpse drawing game, the final reassembly reveals unexpected connections, creating a collective ceramic mural. Blending heritage, storytelling, and experimentation, this immersive experience honours craftsmanship while fostering creative collaboration.

Initiated and coordinated since 2002 by l’Institut pour les Savoir-Faire Français, the European Artistic Crafts Days (EACD) have evolved from a French event into a week-long celebration of crafts and craftspeople across Europe. Over the course of two years, the European Crafts Alliance, via the Crafting project co-funded by the European Union, has provided financial and organisational support to over 100 events across Europe.
