The Michelangelo Foundation has opened applications for the fourth edition of the Homo Faber Fellowship. This eight-month sponsored programme is designed to facilitate the transmission of skills from one generation to the next, pairing master artisans with emerging talents.

Running from September 2026 to April 2027, the fellowship offers a unique opportunity for 25 to 30 duos to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and co-create a new work of art. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and the professional world, equipping participants with both the hands-on skills and the business acumen needed to sustain a career in craft.

How the Programme Works

The fellowship is a structured seven-month journey:

  • September 2026: It begins in Venice, Italy, with a one-month creative and entrepreneurial masterclass for the fellows (with master artisans joining for three days).
  • October 2026 – March 2027: The duo returns to the master artisan’s workshop for a six-month hands-on placement.
  • April 2027: The programme concludes with an international exhibition showcasing the objects co-created by the duos.
Who Can Apply?

Applicants must apply as a formed duo.

  • Master Artisans: Must be recognised experts based in one of the selected European countries (EU and non-EU). They should have the facilities to host a trainee and a strong desire to pass on their knowledge.
  • Fellows: Must be recent graduates (2024–2026) of applied arts and crafts. While the placement must take place in Europe, fellows can be from any nationality from anywhere in the world, provided they can secure the necessary visa.

The programme is a fully sponsored. Selected duos receive financial support to cover the duration of the fellowship, including travel and accommodation for the masterclass in Venice.
